Marie Curie, Radiology and War (1914-1918). On 2 August 1914, general mobilisation was posted on French walls. The next day, war was declared between Germany and France. Marie Curie's laboratory emptied. On 12 August, Marie Curie received two letters from the health department of the Ministry of War, one asking her to consider training radiographers and another asking her to identify existing radiography equipment that could be used by the armies. Determined to take her mission further, Marie Curie approached the Union des Femmes de France of the Red Cross, for which she was appointed inspector of the radiography service. The story of Marie Curie's commitment during the war is told by herself in a book published in 1921: La radiologie et la guerre (Radiology and the war), in which we can understand the many facets of this still poorly mastered tool. However, even as told by its protagonist, this story has often been distorted, both exaggerated and truncated. The aim of this paper is to present the facts and examine the impact of their falsification on the historical narrative.
